Master Gardener of the Year
The Master Gardener Foundation of Washington State recognizes Master Gardeners from across the state each year with three distinct awards. Criteria and nomination forms are available online. Below is a list of the three awards presented each year and this year’s deadlines. Note that MGFKC must forward the completed nomination to the state foundation, so please read the instructions for nominations from King County carefully to meet their deadline. Nominees must consent to be nominated.
- Master Gardener of the Year: This award recognizes current Master Gardeners who contribute to the WSU Master Gardener program and its goals, support the educational aspects of the program, are involved in the community, has demonstrated leadership, and has made a lasting contribution to the program and/or community. All nominees must be active Master Gardeners.Each county is invited to nominated and honor outstanding Master Gardeners. Here are the 2016 instructions for nominations for Master Gardener of the Year for King County Master Gardeners. The nomination package must be received by the Master Gardner Foundation of King County Board via email or US Postal Service by June 15, 2016.
- Ed LaCrosse Distinguished Service Award: This award recognizes someone who has had a significant statewide impact on the WSU Master Gardener Program or on behalf of the Master Gardener Foundation of Washington State.
- Media Award: This award is given to an individual who is a frequent contributor to one or more recognized Washington state media covering gardening topics, education, and demonstrations.
The presentation ceremony takes place at the state Advanced Education Conference in those years in which it is held. In those years in which there is no conference, the awards are presented at the next conference.
